Nanny Goat Hill summit This shows part of the spectacular 360° view from the rocky summit of Nanny Goat Hill. In an early environmental conflict a proposal, defeated by local residents in 1967, would have levelled the whole hill to provide fill for the main Sydney Airport runway. The original 1978 plan for the F5 Freeway would have seen the east side of the hill (from approximately the position at which this photo was taken) completely removed for an 8-lane highway dominating this view. Again, community resistance has preserved both the Hill and the valley views, with the M5East in a tunnel (its exhaust stack is notable in the view today). |
